The match was supposed to start earlier in the evening, but was stopped after the first 3 sets due to rain (yeah, normal Malaysian weather). After 1 hour and when they dried up the main court manually with towels and leaf blowers, the match resumed. Taking photos at this time however proved to be very challenging because I was shooting at night, while the players are moving at high speed. So, there's a lot of grainy noises in the pics :S ... (Almost) Epic Fail

Roland Garros 2010
This year, a lot of giants fell to the underdogs. The Williamses, Henin (I was rooting for her to win), Djokovic and worst of all Roger Federer. These steady giants fell under the hands of lower ranking players; the likes of Stosur, Petrova, Melzer and Soderling.
I wouldn't mind if these players went out all the way to win the Tournament, but they've lost. Which was a bigger disappointment to me, at least.
So who won? Schiavone for the women's and Nadal for the men's.
Schiavone garnered great respect from the spectators. She's been playing for 12 years, but never has she reached to this far end of the game. 12 years of perseverance gives her adequate skills and experience to play against the hard hitting Stosur. Man, Stosur hits like a man, some serves are even faster than Serena's. But with the brawns she lacks skills and control. Most of the time her returns goes long and wide, too overboard. I think she'll be back soon with a better control of that arm muscle.
I think almost everyone was expecting another epic match between Fedex and Nadal since everybody knew Nadal had to take a break last year due to injury. He was expected to come with a fight to win back the trophy that he cherished the most. But Soderling came and spoiled the boil. However at the end, Nadal sailed through with much ease, winning all 3 sets.
So there you go, a short summary of this year's Roland Garros. I'll be talking about the World Cup sometime next week. But I'm more excited thinking about Wimbledon which is coming soon! Adieu.

Federer-esque.
Today's the first time I'm watching Roger Federer vs Andy Murray in a tennis match. Based on their verbal tongue lashing towards each other (only ever so politely in the world of sports, polite trash talking?), I know both men really want to win the trophy. Andy Murray wanted to be the first British/Scottish man to win a grand Slam after so long and Roger Federer wanted the first Grand Slam win as a dad and also come back as tops in the A.O. since he lost it to Rafa last year, and was reduced to tears!

I don't know what is it exactly about Melbourne Park at this time of year that makes men cry. Last year it was Roger who was wiping tears from his eyes, and today it's Andy's turn. I guess modern men nowadays have a larger soft spot in their hearts. Aww... It's o-KAY Andy, you'll have a lot of Grand Slam runs in the future as you're still young.
Over the span of the game, the plays between these two were quite conventional, even though Andy tried to Roger's equilibrium. However, he was no match to Roger's strokes which are deadly accurate and mentally destructive. The game, like I said was quite conventional with a lot of rallies. Roger was playing as himself, calm and focused as always. I couldn't say much about Andy because I've never really observed him before today. I think he wasn't aggressive enough like other players who played against Roger in the finals, unlike Rafael Nadal or Andy Roddick. There were no nail-biting games nor exciting service winners.

Really to say, you're the one of the most consistent player that I've ever known. You are the constant (well, almost). While other players comes and suddenly swipes out the Grand Slam trophies from you (Del Potro, Nadal), but none of them stayed. That is why you really deserve to be No. 1.
It was a good tennis match, but lack of excitement. Maybe that's British tennis for us. LOL.
Other good read: From Federer and Nadal's Intense Rivalry Comes a Masterpiece.
(an epic match that I missed because of a $tup1d business trip! I can't believe I missed it!!! Hotels should subscribe to a Sports channel that shows Live telecast of Tennis Grand Slams!)

Allez Juju!
I love Grand Slam finals weekends. Yesterday was the Australian Open Women's Finals, J. Henin vs S. Williams.
The new age of women's tennis are made up of these two players. The rivalry between them goes a long, long way back, but it's always of the professional sporting kind, of course.
The match started off pretty well at first with the first few couple of games, both players started to gain points collectively. Everything was going so well until the linesmen started calling Henin's 'ins' as 'outs'. There were at least two points that could've been hers was discounted and the point has to be played again. That is just frustrating. The linesmen sucked! Maybe they still have the images of Serena getting angry wanting to shove tennis balls down one's throat in the most infamous US open incident was still fresh in mind. It's really a let down to Justine and I think that was one of the reason why the first set went to Serena.
Nevertheless Justine struggled through the second set and managed to own it. She did played really well in that round and made Serena run for it. Just as things were going so well in the third set, somehow the table has turned and Justine's serves were so low it hit the net a lot of times and compared to Serena's serves which were twice the speed of Henin's, at least.

Well, if Justine could hold her serves better and not let the nerves get to her, she would prevail eventually. I'm not expecting a super miracle to happen here, because finding Justine at the finals is already a miracle. She's been gone from tennis for more over than a year after her sudden retirement in 2008. As people would say, quit while you're winning, that's what she did, she quit from tennis when she was tops, No.1 player at that time.
Justine is my one of my favourite player on court. Not just because she's the underdog and a wildcard this year, but I admire her strength and courage to pull through all the things and all the drama that happened in her life. It's not easy when you have to go through all the drama mess and focus on playing pro tennis at the same time. She's a great player, for someone who's been out from the tennis world for quite a some time and manage to reach the finals really does say that she's a really talented player, and she rightfully deserves the spotlight. I'm just glad to know she'll be around this season. I'm looking forward to see more exciting matches from her in the coming future, especially in Rolland Garros, where she claims her favourite court.
Allez Juju!

Netball is the new football
This is 'Ronaldo'.
Look. Ronaldo is at the field.
Maybe waiting to join his team mates playing in the field.
Look at these girls.
Perhaps they are waiting to see Ronaldo in action.
Perhaps they want to cheer for Ronaldo.
Here is Ronaldo again. Finally in the field with his team mates playing.
Hey!... Wait... a... minute...
What game is Ronaldo and his team mates are playing???
If you guessed Ronaldo is playing netball, you are right.
This is new, even for me. But believe me, there's an establishment for this kind of thing, go and google it.
Even though I'm not a fan of netball, after watching them play, I think I've changed my mind. Pls click image below for more pictures.
This is Netball.
Netball is played by 14 girls who are separated into two teams trying to win points by scoring the ball into a hoop.
It is something like basketball, but they way it is played is that once the player holds the ball, she must pass it to other players or score a goal without much foot movement

US Open x6 win: FAIL!
Came back downstairs after an hour or so. Much to my delight, RF now owns two sets, and now is playing in the fourth. I've been answered? I guess. But everytime I watch the game, RF seems to be struggling. Turned the tv off again and minded my own business.
Before leaving for work, I switched on the telly... "NOOOoooooo!!!'.... An unfamiliar face is holding the big trophy high up in the air, while RF looks on, with a silver 'tray' by his side.
To be fair (and to be a in a good sporting spirit - a critical virtue to have this season), JM deserve to win. In a matter of fact, he beat the best two tennis players of all times, Rafael Nadal and the maestro himself. Undeniably the tennis he played in the semis and this morning was outstanding. All's fair.
IMHO, RF best tennis game and best moments were not in the finals, but in the semis when he played against Novak Djokovic. And this tube shows the best two shots of the game. Yes, he practices that kind of shot, you know. And the looks on ND's face (at 0:57) was priceless, haha.
Well, I'm sorry that you didn't win, Roger, but you can't have it all, 'aight? 5 times was already a record and that's a clear statement that you're a superb tennis player. I'll wait for your next epic win in the next coming season.

Everyone goes south every now and then and some goes to win
There's so much that's happening in the US Open that I just need to blog about it).
And that's what happened when S said "I Didn't say I'd Kill You'- Are you Serious?". Well, that tainted the US Open Women's Tennis yesterday. I know there's so much pressure on S at that moment. She's won a couple of Grand Slams this year, but she's still ranked second after D who doesn't have a Grand Slam title yet. "Apekah?", right?? To make matters worse, she's already lost the first set to K and it seems like she'll be losing this one as well. It was the most imperfect timing when the lineswoman called a foot fault that day, and inadvertently started the bizarre drama of the day.
I don't know... there's one part of me that's unhappy with the lineswoman for making that call (which was really actually not a fault at all!!) and buat muka blur je lepas tu. And there's the other part that's dissapointed with S because she got so emo about it. In both ways, the what-would-be-a-great-semifinals had ended abruptly and sourly without any joys and triumphs of sports-woman-ship at all. It's all bland and a bit sad.
However....
Today's story, unlike yesterday's drama, is a combination of both happy and cute. Like a true champion, K strides from being an unseeded player (after 28-months hiatus) straight into the champion spotlight today, ousting this young player from Denmark. Now she's in my list of my favorite women tennis players after Justine Henin.
And the thing that makes this win a MOM-mentous WIN and cuter that a bunch of lolkittenz is because cute bubbly toddlers on the main court and grand slam trophies go great together side by side. Aawwww...

Rolland Garros Finals 2008
Dinara Safina and Ana IvanovicI am typing this as I watch the match, and as far as the second set goes, it's the worst tennis match I've ever seen between these two blokes. What's wrong with Federer today???? He's not playing his best and making more errors than ever. I remember the match being more fiery and intense last year compared to what I'm witnessing tonight. Is it Federer who's playing badly? Or Nadal is just playing superb and making Federer look bad? I'm not sure, but it seems like Nadal also is putting down a notch (less grunting and less victorious fist clenching after each point won), maybe sensing that Federer is not at his best, instead he's just spiralling downhill after each game and each set! Is it relevant for Federer to still aim to win Roland Garros next year? Or just leave it alone for the King of Clay (Nadal). Sigh... (if you're wondering, I'm a Federer Express fan).
It seems to me that Nadal will win tonight. Just with 3 sets and upsetting and disappointing points for Federer (1-6; 3-6; 0-6). Huhu.. apsal ni Roger? Whatever the outcome is, I' ll love you always, even if you don't win Roland Garros (but make sure you win Wimbledon next month, ok?)
ps: How's the text colour for you readers? I mellowed it down a bit because I got blinded with the contrasting colours.

Wimbledon 2007: Finals
After Henin fell out from the semis, the champion for the finals is already sort of, given. Venus Williams against Marion Bartoli. Selamat! Not much comments since I didn't watched the game.
Men's:
OMG!!!
It was a gut-wrenching, teeth-clenching and hand-gripping finals between none other than the best two players at the moment; Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal. A classic game indeed. Argh! Memang tension tengok, since I am rooting for Federer, and in the first four games, he looked like he's struggling to win every single points against Nadal. It's a pressure to defend your championship title you know, when your opponent is 4 yrs younger than you and is very hyper active; chasing down after every balls, rolling and diving on the ground and a second after that immediately regains his composure preparing for the next attack. Hish!
It seems that with every passing year, it's coming down quite tough for Federer control the court against Nadal. This kid is getting better and better.
Anyway, Roger Federer won (again) (Yeay!!) for the 5th time, bringing himself par to Bjorn Borg. Tahniah, tahniah!!
Okay, before I close the tennis season (I can't cover the US Open because the games are like 4-5am in the mornings!), I'd like to share some tennis jokes. They're not really the 'roll on the floor laughing' kind of jokes, so pls don't expect anything more than a small "hehe"..
Q. What do you serve but never eat?
A. A Tennis ball.

Wimbledon Week!!!
Ok, got it! Now, if you have problems getting your browser to get into Blogger.com, you should try to log in via comment box (make a comment in your blog or other blogs), then, from your blog, click on the small 'B' button on the top left hand corner. This will bring you to your Blogger dashboard.

Anyway, don't forget to catch Wimbledon matches this week.
Despite being held up for a few hours due to rain, the lawn continues to host great matches today. Earlier it was Maria Sharapova who was defeated by Venus Williams. A total whitewash by Venus, although she had to eat dirt in one of the game.
Another heated match today (on going right now) is between Justine Henin and Serena Williams. They've seen each other last month on clay at Rolland Garros, and Justine came out as the winner. It's hard to say who's going to win today, on grass, because Justine had never won this Grand Slam, ever. And Serena is not a stranger on the grounds, being the champion for two years in a row from 2002, tapi kaki macam kena balut tebal tu.
("Ouch!! Justine had just got hit by a ball on her face! That must've been very painful knowing how hard Serena will always hit the ball. Paling tak mau 80mph at least.")
I want Justine Henin to win.

A diversion from normal routine
Yes, you might have guessed right, I was in Langkawi for a short break. The last time I've been there was 3 years ago, back then when it was not known as a geopark yet. I've been there a number of times, Langkawi being only 2.5 hours drive to Kuala Perlis jetty is a swift drive from Penang; and I've seen it changed a lot from being a pretty laid back and conventional old town into a world class tourist getaway island. Truly the Mahsuri 7 generation long curse have ended, I guessed.
There's a lot of activities for all types of people. For those who love to shop, it's a duty free shopping haven. For families, it's a great place to bring your family members, especially children to many educational spots like the aquarium, taman lagenda, makam Mahsuri or just go for sight seeing around the island. For those who seek adventure and thrills, you can hire a boat and go for a trip around the mangrove areas, feed the eagles and walk into caves, go island hopping and scuba diving or take the cable car to the top of Gunung Mat Cinchang. So many things to do...
****
I came back just in time to catch the Women's Finals at Roland Garros last night.
Disappointingly it wasn't a dream match as I would have expected (between Maria and Henin). I was hoping a much more fiery match, but it ended quite calmly. There was a lot of errors by Ana Ivanovic, which is twice as much as Justine's, but, hey... it's the girl's (Ana) first grand slam finals appearance.
Alright, I'm wasting my time blogging about tennis. Rather, I should be watching Roger's game against Nadal for the men's finals. Both won 1 set now, and I believe it's gonna be a very long and fiery match tonight. Obviously, I'm siding with Roger ;) [although I know it's a challenge to overcome Rafa. Huhuu...]

World Environment Day
If you have the chance and time, please get yourself a copy of Al Gore's bio/documentary entitled 'An Inconvenient Truth', where he talks mainly about the increasing global temperature and its effects and impact to us and the world.
The world is like a huge chamber that retains heat. The atmospheric layers acts as insulant preventing carbon dioxide from leaving the earth. This is made worse with deforesting and burning of fossil fuel. Although a small number of scientists say global warming is a normal earth 'cycle', I on the other hand partly believe that statement. In my opinion, yes, global warming is a natural occurence (about every ten thousand years or so), but it is made 10 times worse by human activities.
If you think that the action taken by one person might have no impact at all in improving the health condition of out world and you ought to wait for government laws to be passed only then things will change, you are wrong. If anything, it has to start from the smallest unit, that is you, and then we proceed to persuade families and friends to be more aware environmentally. I'm trying to do my bit to help cool down global warming threats by recycling, saving energy and reduce unecessary waste. I hope you will do you part to help too.

Roland Garros 2007

Roland Garros is on. The stars are back on the court sliding their way on the clay court to get to the ball. Love it.
Some of the key women players are out; Amelie Mouresmo and Venus Williams, much to my dismay, but not to worry, there are many good players out there as well that you can count to give a good performance on court such as Serena, Maria, Yelena and Justine.
I think Federer has a good chance of winning the French Open this year now that he has beaten Nadal on clay court last month. A raging bull can definitely be halted by a brave bull fighter.

Australian Open Finals 2007
And today, for the Men's Finals, it's gonna be a truly awaited match between Federer and (Speedy) Gonzales. The latter has improved a lot since last year. He has managed to beat Nadal in the quater finals and Haas in the semis.. like an overnight success, he is.
Despite both being equally cute, I hope Federer will be able to come out as the winner of the Men's Finals (no offence Gonzales).

6-0, 7(7)-6(5), 6(2)-7(7), 6-3
The first set seems to be an easy flow for Roger, 6-0. Almost choked to see Rafa slightly under performed in the first set. Looked like he didn't put any effort at all in that set to steal a point. But he gracefully resurrected from the humiliating defeat in the following sets and went to win the third set.
The best things were the rallies.. the highest was 24 rallies between the two. Wow! Roger's slices and aces.. and the volleys from those two were super!
You can read more by clicking the picture below or go to here.
It was a huge relief for me that the history of what happened at Rolland Garros last month didn't repeat itself last night. If not, it'll surely be the biggest blow ever in the history of tennis. A splendid and enjoyable game. Really.
A little bit nervous for next year's Wimbledon.. Rafa will surely be back on court with more experience in his hands (and feet). I hope you will be more prepared Roger Federer. I don't really mind if you don't win the French Open (are you sure Dyanna?), but you have to get the 2007 Wimbledon's Trophy.
(Okay, before I go on exaggerating about the game, I better stop here, but clearly you can see that Federer is my all time favourite tennis player).
To Mirka: If you are tired of following Roger around the world for his tennis tournament, I'll be very glad to swap it with you.
